When Does A Man’s Metabolism Slow Down?

Posted October 26, 2014 By admin

metabolismInteresting question… when does a man’s metabolism begin to slow down?

Your metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories. The truth is that a man’s metabolism begins to slow down around the age of 25 years old! The decline slowly begins and progresses as much as 2 – 4% per year according to trainer and fitness expert Obi Obadike.

The good news is that you are not bound by those statistics and you can do somethings that will help slow down this process.

The one thing you can do to keep your metabolism working well is to preserve and gain lean muscle mass and you do that with exercise.

Bottom line is you can keep your metabolism working well with consistent anaerobic training!

Taking Offense is a Choice We Make!

Posted October 22, 2014 By admin

the-greatest-charity1Hello my friends,

I just want to encourage you today to choose strength and love. It seems that daily, we are all given opportunities to get offended or upset.

Just Try It!

Today, I challenge you to try this exercise if you are given the opportunity.  When that moment occurs where you can choose to be offended and feel your blood pressure go up, take a deep breath and say “No, I will NOT let this offend me.”

When we take offense, we become a victim. Having a victim mentally can crush a person very quickly and make us miserable and unhappy.  I am not saying to let people walk all over you either…. we must be our own advocates of rights and wrongs.

Let’s not give our offenders too much power. Rather, let’s take back that power and turn it to something positive that we can control.

I hope you have a wonderful day and keep smiling and doing good around you!

Don’t Stay the Same!

Posted August 20, 2014 By admin

desire to changeDo you agree with this quote?

If there’s one thing that make people turn around and change, it’s the desire for change. I completely agree with this quote. Sometimes we need to get to the point where the desire for change is greater than the desire to stay the same.

Change is Good

The desire always starts in the mind at first. It’s common to hear people talk about how they are going to loose weight and become healthy… in the future. What makes them shift from talking to doing?

If you’ve contemplated a change in your health and body, I challenge you to turn the thinking into doing. I’m not just talking about understanding, I’ve lived it and continue to live it daily.

Stay healthy my friends and I hope you have a great day!

eat_healthyYou Control You

I love this quote by Deepak Chopra “The say you think, the way you behave, the way you eat, can influence your life by 30 to 50 years.”  There is so much truth to this quote!  When people begin to invest into themselves; physically, emotionally and spiritually, it adds years to their life and it enhances the quality of life as well.

As the Founder and President of Forever Young MD, I make sure that I live what I preach on a daily basis.  I feel better now in my 50’s then when I was in my 30’s.  The quality of life that health brings forth is greatly enhanced on all levels.

I challenge you to begin a journey of health.  We are here to help you achieve your goals!

Children And Fitness

blog6-9I recently received the following email from the mother of an eleven year old who saw my before and after pictures on my website,

My son Anthony is so adorable…I pick him up and he says wants to work on his abs before his vacation in Aruba and that he wants Dr. Torres‘ abs. Can you give him some suggestions?

Well, Anthony, you are getting a head start on your health and fitness! I’m very impressed. When I was your age, I was embarrassed to take my shirt off at the beach. I would watch all the other kids enviously from the edge of the shore and I would never wade into the water because I didn’t want anyone to see me. I couldn’t see the way out. It took me thirty years to make a change, take control of my health and stop being embarrassed. You are light years ahead of me and I am so confident that you can eventually have your own set of six-pack abs!

Let’s see how I can help set you off in the right direction:

First things first. Six-pack abs for an eleven-year-old will require a combination of cardio, strength-training and healthful eating. You have to know that highly developed abs require certain hormones that usually don’t exist in pre-pubescent boys. If you’re voice hasn’t dropped and you don’t have a chest full of hair, this is probably you for now.

At your age, you should be eating anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 calories a day. Excess fat on your belly is what will keep you from having that six-pack you’re looking for, so you’ll need to burn more calories than you consume. That means running around, swimming, being outside, playing sports, jumping rope, and just being active! Keep track of the amount of calories you eat and drink. If you eat more calories than you burn (don’t forget to count the calories you burn naturally just breathing and moving), then the calories will be stored as fat and they’ll cover up your muscles.

Now, this does not mean eat less food. It means eat more healthful foods from each of your daily food groups so you can continue to get your required minerals and vitamins while your body is growing. The majority of your diet should consist of fruits, vegetables, lean meats (like turkey, chicken breast and fish) as well as good fats–like nuts. You should also eat frequent small portion meals and avoid fast foods and eating late at night.

The main muscles responsible for the six-pack appearance are the rectus abdominis. If you have low body fat, these muscles will be visible. Again, you’re lacking some of the hormones you need to build up your abs to the max, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck.

You can still have abs and be in great shape! You need a high intensity cardio program of at least an hour per day. You need to do a high number of crunches or leg raises. Get the Pumpup App and there you can design your workout routine. We can connect and I can help you out with your program.

The other day I was at a show in Orlando and a young man just like yourself ( 13 years old) turned to me and said, ¨Hey, mister. You look like you work out. Check this out.” And then he did this…

See photo

This can be you if you follow my advice. You’re on the right track in many ways though. Setting goals is a great habit to develop, and focusing on maintaining and developing a healthy body is going to reap plenty of dividends as you grow up.

Good luck Anthony on your quest!!!! Let me know how I can help.
