Are Telomeres The Key To Aging And Cancer?

Posted November 17, 2014 By admin

11-18Inside the nucleus of a cell, our genes are arranged along twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres, which protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide, and hold some secrets to how we age and get cancer.

Telomeres have been compared with the plastic tips on shoelaces, because they keep chromosome ends from fraying and sticking to each other, which would destroy or scramble an organism’s genetic information.

Yet, each time a cell divides, the telomeres get shorter. When they get too short, the cell can no longer divide; it becomes inactive or “senescent” or it dies. This shortening process is associated with aging, cancer, and a higher risk of death. So telomeres also have been compared with a bomb fuse.

Omega 3 fatty acids (also known as n-3 fatty acids) polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential nutrients for your health.

Omega-3 fatty acids are needed in our bodies for normal functions such as controlling blood clotting and building cell membranes in the brain. Our bodies cannot make omega-3 fats, we must get them through food or capsules. Stress Management

Although there are no cures for Alzheimer, there are several ways to relieve stress. Exercising is a great form of stress reliever. When we exercise, there are good endorphins that are released in our bodies that make us feel better, happier and healthier. I also encourage you to surround yourself with positive people and stay away from negative people who complain all the time.

Posted November 9, 2014 By admin

11-10Happy People are More Likely to be Healthier

Can happiness be a choice? Happiness is the most subjective emotion we can experience because it is subjective to our environment and circumstances.

Feeling Grateful

When we begin to focus on all the things in life we have to be thankful for, our attitude changes and it does bring a sense of happiness into our lives.  Focus your energy on all the good things in your life.  Make an effort and determine NOT let give too much space to the negative.

Happiness can be a choice- it’s all in how we look at it!

Make it a great day my friends and stay healthy!
